Mount Washington Trip

On Friday Todd, Jordan, Dave and I (Kyle) went up to Mount Washington for snowboarding/skiing/snowblading

Sunday with Keora

Kyle and I had Keora for the whole weekend, and spent most of Sunday playing outside with her.  She and Kyle played fetch on the lawn while it was still a little sunny.

 

We had a little surprise when we went down to the water - The recent wind and rain storms had washed a ton of logs up on the beach!

It was a bit of a job to walk over them - They were covering about 80% of the sand!

 

 

Kyle and Keora found some suitable sticks and continued their game of fetch by the water.

I ventured out near the tide line, wearing my trusty wellies...

...And had to make a hasty getaway when a wave taller than my wellies left me with a boot full of water! Whoops!

 

We spent some time watching bald eagles hunt for fish by diving into the waves before heading back home to warm up.

Elk Lake

Kyle, Keora and I walked the 10k loop around Elk Lake today. The weather was chilly and damp, but actually pretty nice for a cold-weather hike.

Beer Fest 2012

Arriving at Royal Athletic Park for Beer Fest 2012!

 

Jordan had harvested some hops before the event and brought some for us to accessorize with!

There were a lot of performers - The most memorable being these two. They were playing for beer tokens (but would take change, too).

Todd and Dave made an appearance as well.

 

 

Jordan started to feel emotional in an "I love you, man" sort of way.

But not everyone returned the sentiment.

Conan made friends with the iconic Victoria Mad Hatter.

 By the look on his face (and the sunburn on his nose) you can tell Kyle had a great day!

Sailing at Oak Bay Harbour

Before our evening sailing adventure we stopped for a late lunch at the Penny Farthing pub in Oak Bay.

 

We arrived at the marina a little early, so we toured the harbour and watched the seals until our captain arrived to take us out on the water.

 

The weather was beautiful - barely a cloud in the sky.

 

(This isn't the boat we sailed on, but I couldn't resist snapping a picture of it.)

Finally out on the water! I took the first shift at the helm.

Arrows pointing up mean that the water is safe to the North of this buoy. 

We had great winds and spent the majority of our time under wind power (only had to turn the engine on when we were heading back to the marina). Kyle and I got to practise some of the maneuvers we learned in our December classes and tacked (catching the wind on the alternate side to turn the boat) six or seven times as well. After three hours relaxing on the water, we finally steered towards shore under the light of the setting sun.
